The effect of “Short-Circuit” L1 use of pre-reading activities on L2 reading comprehension and focus-on-vocabulary learning

چکیده

This study explores the effect of categorically different pre-reading activities in learners’ L1 on reading comprehension and learning focus-on-vocabulary. The participants were sixty Turkish EFL learners attending a state high school, data was gathered from their achievement test scores. analyzed through one-way multivariate analysis variance (MANOVA), t-test statistical procedures implemented. findings revealed that treatment group, who exposed to L1, obtained better results both focus-on-vocabulary than control group. positive implementing ‘’short-circuit’’ use for exercises observed. It also seen enhanced vocabulary learning.
